Young Leaders of East Alabama
YLEA is brought to you through a partnership between the East Alabama Chamber Foundation and Troy University. Our mission is to help young individuals learn about our community and the vital role that they play in making East Alabama a better community for future generations.
Beginning this summer, scholars who are selected to participate in YLEA will have the potential to earn dual enrollment credit through Troy University. The program also includes an orientation, a four day trip to Troy University, nine leadership development dates, and graduation from the program.

Beginning this summer, scholars who are selected to participate in YLEA will have the potential to earn dual enrollment credit through Troy University. The program also includes an orientation, a four day trip to Troy University, nine leadership development dates, and graduation from the program.
The four day trip to Troy University works on developing skills that will improve your leadership such as public speaking and team building. The nine leadership development dates will provide unique opportunities to become better acquainted with how our community runs, grows, and thrives.
Our team is made up of caring and dedicated professionals who are passionate about helping youth succeed. We are committed to providing the highest quality services and support to our youth and their families, and we work tirelessly to ensure that every young person who comes through our program has the opportunity to thrive.
The application is open to scholars from Central, Glenwood, Russell County, & Smiths Station who will be classified as Juniors during the 2024-25 school year. In order to be eligible for the program, scholars must have a 3.0 GPA & can not have discipline referrals.
Applications will be open from Apr 10 - Apr 30, 2024.

The Partnership between the East Alabama Chamber of Commerce and Troy University allows the first of its kind opportunity for a Junior Leadership program to earn dual enrollment credit. Starting this summer, scholars participating in YELA can now earn dual enrollment credit through Troy University. This comprehensive program offers an orientation, a transformative four-day visit to Troy University campus, nine leadership development sessions, and a grand graduation ceremony. The immersive experience at Troy University focuses on honing essential leadership skills like public speaking and team dynamics. The nine leadership sessions aim to deepen participants'' understanding of our community's operations, growth and success.
